Nigel Dews
Nigel co-founded GNG Partners in 2019 and has extensive experience in media, telecommunications, energy, technology, finance, FMCG, healthcare, agriculture and venture capital. This experience has spanned senior executive, board and consulting roles in both public and private companies, contributing to his practical and action-oriented approach to consulting.
Nigel was born in New Zealand, grew up in Australia and has lived and worked in Australia, New Zealand, Europe and the US. Nigel began his career as an Economist at the Reserve Bank of Australia before undertaking an MBA at London Business School and going on to join McKinsey & Company, where he honed his strategy skills.
Following this, Nigel has held leadership roles in many growth companies including as CEO of Fairfax Digital, 3 Mobile, Vodafone Australia, MessageMedia and European start-up, Hue. He later joined Port Jackson Partners, a leading Australian boutique strategy firm, as a Director and shareholder.
Nigel’s experience in growing consumer businesses includes leading 3 Mobile to become the first profitable 3G business globally through capturing 15% of post-paid market share as a new entrant. In addition to this, Nigel started and led Fairfax Digital through the late 1990s and early 2000s, successfully establishing many newspapers online and creating marketplaces such as Domain. Nigel also reinvigorated MessageMedia, a ‘sleepy’ Australian technology business, to enable an ~8x value uplift and $1.7bn exit.
Nigel is also an Operating Partner and sits on the Investment Committee for OneVentures, a leading Australian technology and healthcare venture capital firm with almost $1bn in funds under management which has a partnership with GNG to develop growth acceleration plans for all new portfolio companies.
Nigel has a Bachelor of Economics, Honours (First Class) from James Cook University and an MBA (with Distinction) from London Business School
He is married with three grown up children and enjoys getting into the outdoors with them all.
