Experienced Strategy Consultant
Sydney and Melbourne | Full-time
GNG Partners is a top tier Australian strategy advisory practice. We work alongside the Boards and senior leaders of leading public and private companies to solve their most critical strategic challenges.
We are looking for exceptional candidates with 3+ years of consulting or similar experience to join our growing team. This is a role for someone who wants to do exceptional strategy work without the bureaucracy, hierarchy, and grind that often comes with a larger firm.
Why GNG Partners?
GNG Partners provides a distinctive environment for you to grow and thrive as a consultant. Here's what that means in practice:
Direct access to senior leaders from day one. Our Partners and Senior Advisors are hands-on in delivery. You'll work alongside people with decades of top-tier consulting and executive experience, learning directly from them on live client work.
No large pyramids. Small, high-calibre teams mean your contribution is visible and your voice is heard. There's no layer of managers between you and the work that matters.
Genuinely interesting and varied work. From high-growth technology scale-ups to some of the largest organisations in Australia and everything in between. No single-sector specialisation, no cookie-cutter projects.
Practical strategy that gets implemented. We stay involved through to benefit realisation, which means you'll see the real-world impact of the advice you help shape.
A sustainable, people-first environment. We design engagements so that you can do your best work without burning out. We care about each individual in our team.
Accelerated career development. Because we're a small firm without the layers of a large practice, high performers progress quickly. We invest in your development and give you the opportunities and guidance to grow.
The Role
As an experienced consultant, you will work alongside Partners, Senior Advisors, and other experienced team members to solve complex, high-stakes problems for our clients. Your time will be split between our offices overlooking Sydney Harbour or our Collins street offices overlooking Docklands in Melbourne, and our clients' offices.
Your responsibilities will include:
Managing defined workstreams and small client teams, delivering high-quality outputs independently and on time
Leading complex analysis and insight generation, guiding the team toward clear conclusions and actionable recommendations
Writing clearly and persuasively, with strong supporting evidence and logic underpinning every conclusion
Building trusted client relationships and establishing the foundation for long-term partnerships
Developing work plans, anticipating risks, and making efficient use of team resources
Mentoring and supporting junior consultants, creating an environment where constructive feedback flows in all directions
Overseeing data collection and model development, providing quality assurance on analytical outputs
Contributing to proposal development and identifying opportunities to extend or deepen existing client relationships
About You
We're looking for applicants who excel at what they do and want to be part of a high-performing team that takes its work and its people seriously.
You'll bring:
Minimum 3 years of professional experience with a top-tier strategy consulting firm, investment bank, or similar environment
Advanced written and verbal communication skills to produce clear, concise, and persuasive client-ready materials
Strong analytical capability and a track record of developing rigorous, creative fact bases for complex problem solving
Interest in understanding and developing AI capabilities
Commercial acumen and awareness of the practical, financial, and organisational impact of strategic recommendations
Strong stakeholder skills and ability to facilitate challenging conversations with senior executives and adapt your style to maximise impact
Resilience and adaptability; you thrive in ambiguous situations and stay committed when the problems are demanding
Advanced PowerPoint and Excel skills, and experience working with sophisticated analytical tools or comfort developing new skills with such tools
An outstanding academic record
